Are readers of TheGardenLady looking for lovely gardens to visit or tour? Would you love someone to give you a holiday or birthday present of an IOU promise to take you to a wonderful garden? Or are readers interested in excellent lectures on plants or gardening? Or are the readers just interested in buying plants for their gardens- native plants, that is?

Well, if you are living in the Pennsylvania area or visiting the Pennsylvania area, consider going to a magical place called Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve.  Bowman’s Hill is “the premier destination for seeing and learning about the native plants of Pennsylvania. The 134-acre Preserve features more than 800 species of native plants in a naturalistic setting.” You can ask for a list of the wildflowers that are in bloom when you are there. Then you can walk around the preserve and try to find as many of the listed flowers as you can. Or ask if you can get into a docent led tour. The Bowman’s Hill address is New Hope, PA. Their telephone number is 215 862 2924.

If you are going for the lectures, their 2010 lectures are already being listed and sound excellent. Sign up for the lectures to be sure that you will get in.

Or if you want to plant native plants in your garden and you live in areas within the same zone, Bowman’s Hill sells “over 200 species of high-quality native wildflowers, vines, ferns, shrubs and trees that are offered for sale at their Spring and Fall Native Plant Sales. All plants are nursery-propagated; none are collected from the wild.” Bowman’s Hill has both a spring and fall sale. The dates for the 2010 sales are not out, so you should contact Bowman’s Hill for the dates and time. Of course, you can buy seeds from Bowman’s Hill all through the year.

If you want to make a day of this visit but don’t think you want to spend an entire day visiting just one park, know that Bowman’s Hill is located in historic Washington’s Crossing State Park.  So you can also explore the park and visit the area where George Washington crossed the Delaware River- there is a small museum with this history. And if you don’t want to bring a picnic lunch, there are nice restaurants in the area. Are you thinking that you also want to shop that day? Well, everyone’s favorite shopping destination for both charm and stores is lovely New Hope, PA.

This would make the perfect outing for everyone.
